Job Title: Program Director

Purpose of Position: The Program Director works collaboratively with the Moving Forward Education team to successfully manage and direct progressive after-school tutoring and mentoring programs for Oakland youth.

About Our Organization: Moving Forward Education is a tutoring and mentoring service dedicated to creating gender-specific learning environments that change the landscape of education.  Through engaging small-group instruction and intensive social/emotional support, our program leaves lasting positive impressions on our students’ lives and their futures.

Job Duties:

  1. Quality Management: rigorously monitor and ensure that all programs are of high-quality and are completely aligned with the organization’s feminist mission and vision
  2. Program Implementation: implement and innovate the system for program start-up, provide support to site staff to ensure that all sites start up successfully, with maximum impact and student attendance
  3. Staff Management: recruit quality after-school program staff and site coordinators, provide on-going staff training, support and management
  4. Outreach: conduct focused and directed student recruitment, meet and exceed student recruitment goals
  5. Retention: develop a student retention plan that builds from prior years’ experience, retain no less than 90% of recruited students
  6. Curriculum Development: work with Directors to develop fresh activities that include academics, enrichment, and community building
  7. Innovation: work with an eye towards constant innovation of job duties, systems, programs, and general organizational growth
  8. Additionally, other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  2. Experience working with youth (K-12th) in inner-city school settings
  3. Knowledge of successful classroom management techniques
  4. Strong social justice education around gender, race, class and sexual orientation
  5. Experience supervising staff, including the ability to coach and discipline staff
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual a plus
  7. Ability to demonstrate professionalism, diligence, and strong attention to detail

Communication Expectations:
Be available on the provided phone during extended working hours (9am-7pm, Monday-Friday), and return phone calls within one hour.
Send weekly email check-outs detailing the accomplishments of the week, questions, and requests for support.
Respond to staff email and phone correspondence with a 24-hour turn-around time.

Evaluation Criteria:
This position comes with a ninety-day probationary period.
The Program Director will be evaluated monthly on his/her ability to meet and exceed his/her job expectations.

Salary:  $34,000-42,000 DOE annually, paid twice monthly

Schedule:
This job is a full-time commitment.  Please expect to put in at least forty hours of work each week.
Sundays are customarily days off.

5 days of paid vacation and 5 days of paid sick time.
Offices closed and time-off paid from December 24th-January 1st .
All time-off requests must be submitted by email with two weeks’ notice for vacation, and as much notice as possible for sick days. 
Vacations may not be approved during critical periods in program development and/or implementation. 
Vacations must be approved before your plans are made.
